Its the old-age question – scratch that, the age-old question. Face it, stress is a fact of life for anyone in the entrepreneurial fast lane, but the good news is that it doesn’t have to cost you. Done right, it can actually boost your energy, help you problem solve and increase your memory recall.
Sure, stress can cause sleep deprivation which can then lead to an interruption in insulin regulation and weight gain. Then there are high stress levels that can have adverse affects on memory and can compromise your immune system. The solution? There are a few simple tips to help you make sure that the fire in your belly is the fuel you need for your next big idea – not an ulcer eating away at you!
Get Your Sleep On!
As Arianna Huffington would say, “There is that special glow after a good night’s sleep when you feel really in the zone”. Most of us bring our work back home after a long ride on the subway. The best solution is to let go of ‘what was’ and focus on what is more important under the roof of your own home! Don’t we all yearn for our comfy beds?
One of the quickest stress-busters, laughter is the best medicine, especially when encountered by an enormous stress ball. Try to read funny jokes or maybe find an hilarious colleague to laugh with (and not at). What about an hysteric YouTube video? Laugh all the way to the bank!
Positivity to a Pulp!
Allow us to give you a lesson from meditating Buddhists to strive to see everything as ‘stress-less’. The idea is that objects cannot be stressful all by themselves — you have to interpret them that way. It’s worth it to practice reframing stress into something positive. For instance, when you practice seeing a rejection by a client as just another step toward the ‘yes’ you’ll eventually get from another prospect, you don’t become paralyzed and stressed from it. You keep moving forward. This is key for sales people.
Sweat, Sweat, Sweat!
Give stress a physical release through exercise – who would have thought? Everything works wonders when its finally put to practice, so why not utilise a punching bag rather than your partner or colleague? Whether you sign up for gym membership or work a dumbbell in front of the television, think about setting goals (and your physique) while putting that stress to rest.
