The end may be in sight for Jane, the virgin.
Gina Rodriguez, who plays Jane, said at an event in Austin that the dramedy will likely return for one final season. The actress, who this season made her directorial debut on The CW soap, said that she hoped to “do more directing next year — in our final season.”
Believe it or not, Jane the Virgin has never been a ratings grabber. Jane is among the lowest-rated shows on US broadcast, most recently collecting 600,000 same-day viewers and a 0.2 in the key adults 18-49 demographic. But what it lacks in overall viewership, it makes up for in awards conversation around star Rodriguez. She won The CW’s first-ever Golden Globe for her role as Jane.
The series was picked up for a more limited 13-episode fourth season, which has allowed Rodriguez an opportunity to explore other projects. Rodriguez has an overall deal with Jane producers CBS Television Studios and is developing a few other projects for the small screen. She’s also set to star and produce a Netflix romantic comedy called ‘Someone Great.’
